History
The Roy family of Mahishadal, has always been dedicated to the development of the local area and its society at large since the 16th century.
Even though the family’s fortunes and influence dwindled long ago due to extortionate taxation by India’s Mughal rulers, draught and famine, and historical betrayals, the sense of duty towards the people still remained undiminished amongst the family members.
Our Founder, Bindu Bala Roy, started her journey as a young bride of the family, but soon faced a harrowingly difficult life as a teenage widow and mother of three children in the 1940s of colonial India. She fought poverty and social taboos to bring up her children in the best way possible alongside making exemplary efforts to help and support others around her, for them to flourish equally well. Her unshakable belief in herself and principles etched in stone, her hard work, self-initiative, unconditional love, perseverance and self-sacrifice has made her champion the values of the family in the most trying times.
Even though the selfless actions of Bindu Bala had been transforming the lives of many since the 1950s, the foundation took a bigger form with more organised operations and resources since the 1970s with the contributions of Dr. Brajendra Nath Roy, the youngest son of Bindu Bala Roy.
